Category: Training Publish date: 02/02/2024

New CTP Course - Certified Scrum Product Owner Our new 2-day Scrum Alliance ‘Certified Scrum Product Owner’ course takes place by virtual classroom, and is ideal for anyone who is new to Scrum, seeking a Project Management or Business Analyst role, or those who’ve attended our Certified ScrumMaster course and are now considering a Scrum Product Owner role.

What is Scrum?

Scrum is an agile framework used to deliver large or complex projects or products in small increments via a scrum team. As each product increment is completed, the team review, inspect and adapt, constantly finding ways to improve until the entire project is completed.

Each member of the scrum team has specific roles, with everyone working in short ‘sprints’ to break down complex projects with regular discussion and daily progress reviews. This adaptable style of working towards a goal has a number of benefits, including:

  • lower costs
  • higher productivity
  • quicker release of products to users and consumers
  • better employee morale as the team works together but isn’t ‘managed’.

Scrum roles

ScrumMaster – Responsible for guiding and coaching team members, acting as a facilitator in helping remove any stumbling blocks to their progress, and controlling and managing project tasks towards the end goal.

Scrum Product Owner – A critical role in any scrum project, responsible for maximising the value of the product and the overall success of the project. The Product Owner works with the customer to determine the product and features needed. They’re also responsible for the Product Backlog (a list of all requirements in the product), and for dealing with shifting priorities to ensure the backlog is constantly updated in line with business goals.

On top of this, they work with the delivery or development team to help them understand the product vision. The Product Owner evaluates the product at each increment and is responsible for liaising with and reporting back to all stakeholders, ensuring the overall project success.
