Category: Success Stories Publish date: 03/03/2021

Supporting Ian Weatherley on his resettlement journey Ian Weatherley left the Army as a Major in 2020 after serving for 38 years. Having reached an age where he decided he’d like to change career, Ian engaged with the resettlement support available to him with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP). Ian credits utilising the range of support from CTP, with guiding him towards his current role.

"Teamwork, comradeship and working with like-minded individuals to a common goal were all great aspects of military life; and those that I’ll miss the most."

Resettlement

Once registered with the CTP, Ian attended a 3-day Career Transition Workshop (CTW), and worked closely with his CTP Career Consultant:

"I found the CV writing exercises extremely useful in helping me prepare myself for civilian employment.

"The support from my Career Consultant was also hugely valuable; providing expert guidance on matching jobs to my experience and values."

Ian also made the most of the CTP website and our online job board, RightJob:

"I used RightJob and found the advert for the role I currently hold. The application process was made much easier by RightJob, and following three virtual interviews, I landed the role."

Successful Outcome

Ian is now an Armed Services Liaison Manager for Heylo Housing Group:

"My job utilises my knowledge of the UK Brigades locations, their establishment contacts and hierarchy to reach Service personnel across the UK.

"My training and experience of working as part of a team, as well as my personal skills have all been crucial in helping me succeed in my new role."

Advice

And as his closing words of advice to fellow Service leavers, Ian goes on to say:

"Never refuse the offer of advice from the CTP or any employment agency/specialist. They’re the experts and can help you move forward in your career.

"Take every opportunity of training that’s on offer, and choose your preferred future role in a field that you enjoy."
