Resettlement Success: From RAF to Electrical Engineer

Resettlement Success: From RAF to Electrical Engineer James Mockford, 32, who works in the King’s Lynn office, said:

“I was in the RAF for nine years before leaving in 2013 serving across a number of bases and including two tours in Iraq. I joined UK Power Networks in 2014 as my first main job after that

“It’s a move which has worked out well for me and a transition I’ve been able to make. I already had an HND in Engineering so with additional training I’ve been able to work as a field engineer here.

“My dad, Stephen, worked for the company his whole life and when I was younger I said I would never do the same, I wanted something different and the challenge of joining the RAF appealed.

“I’m now the fourth generation to join this industry, though, my father’s father worked at Seeboard and his father was also an electrician. I think my dad is pleased it’s worked out for me and has kept the family tradition going.

Being ex-military helps you with people-management skills I think, it sets you up well to deal calmly with pressure situations and you have that same motivation of wanting to do a good job for the public.”
