Bryan Williams joined the Army on a two year apprenticeship in 1988 and left in 2011 after serving for 23 years as a vehicle mechanic.
“I was looking for a job for around a year when I left and attending the CTP workshops helped me prepare my CV and for interviews. I was lucky enough to have trade qualifications and had worked on a variety of equipment and gained a wealth of experience. It is surprising how many transferable skills I had such as leadership, management and the ability to adapt to new plans quickly. I didn’t worry that I wouldn’t get a job, just how long it would take”.
Bryan initially attained agency work in a factory and was then employed by a plant hire company. However, when his role at the plant changed to lone working he found he was no longer enjoying it, so he started searching for something that would bring him fulfilment as a team player. This is when he joined DP World London Gateway.
"I joined DP World London Gateway in 2013 as a Mechanical Technician. The role involves providing a first response to breakdowns and passing any larger jobs that can’t be fixed during my shift on to the Asset team. I was provided with a wealth of training to enable me to work on brand new equipment in a state of the art port that is growing year on year which gives me job security.
