An Introduction to Thames Valley Police

“When things are at their worst for people, I want us to be at our best.”
John Campbell QPM, Chief Constable

Who We Are

Preventing and thoroughly investigating crime, supporting victims and bringing offenders to justice. This commitment can’t be achieved by any one person alone; it relies upon a team of over 8,000 staff, officers and volunteers, working alongside partner agencies and the public.

Together, we aim to build stronger, more resilient communities by providing a modern police force which meets the needs of the public we serve.

Exciting challenges lie ahead as new digital technologies and ways of working are transforming the way we protect our communities. To ensure we deliver a high-quality service, we require the very best talent to be a part of the TVP family.

Our Patch

Our patch is as diverse as they come – historic cities meet vast rural spaces. Cutting-edge organisations work alongside world-class universities. 2.3 million people call it home and 6 million visit each year.

There’s four football league clubs and annual high-profile events including Royal Ascot, Reading Festival and Henley Regatta to keep an eye on. We often rise to unique challenges like the Royal Weddings and Presidential visits, with millions of people around the world watching on.

We’re home to Windsor Castle and the PM’s country residence Chequers – which means we’re also home to a Protection Group of armed officers second only in size to the Metropolitan Police.

We also host two specialist regional units, Counter Terrorism Policing in the South East (CTPSE) and the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU). These units work across the South East, and include officers and staff from Thames Valley Police, Hampshire Constabulary, Kent Police, Surrey Police, and Sussex Police.

Our Dedication To The Armed Forces

TVP is highly dedicated to supporting those resettling into civilian life from any military service, as well as supporting spouses and family members of currently serving military personnel. At TVP we understand the desire to belong to a working ‘family’. Being a 24/7 service, we value the importance of being a fully supportive unit that provides a safe and positive workplace at all times for all of our employees.

Thames Valley Police have been awarded the Silver Award from the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme and are actively working towards our Gold Award. We’re committed to equality and inclusion and welcome individuals from all backgrounds, skills and experience into the TVP Family. We currently have over 20 active reservists and several hundred veterans who work for TVP. We host a reservists’ network where people can support and connect with each other, as well as a network of 8 armed forces champions who advocate armed forces internally and externally. These networks support both officers and staff who have served or have an interest in the military.

For those who may be a spouse or family member of a military person, we understand the need for flexibility. That’s why all of our roles are eligible to apply for flexible working, while also offering a number of part time and job share roles.

Different Roles

Whatever your skills and experience, you're sure to find your place at TVP. Whether that's as an officer, a member of staff or volunteer; we're one team, working together to build safer and stronger communities. As you can see, policing our region is no mean feat. And our people are our most important asset. So, what part will you play?
