Highground Virtual Rural Week 20th-22nd May 2024

20
May

Location: Online

Time: 09:30 - 15:00

HighGround provides the Rural Week Programme delivered both online and residential hosted at a Landex Agricultural College.

The Rural Week Programme introduces Service Leavers, Reservists and Veterans to careers and vocational opportunities across the Land-Based Sector, while helping understand where skills and attributes honed during Military service are directly transferable.

The presenters have supported the Rural Week Programme previously so understand the information and detail Service Leavers, Reservists and Veterans require. Equally they will take questions and provide advice.

A VRW typically runs from Monday to Wednesday three sessions each day with breaks between each session.

Typical Timetable:

Day 1
  • Introduction to the land-based sector, considerations when choosing a 2nd career and an individual’s experiences of transition from the military to civilian employment.
  • Landscaping and Heritage Gardening.
  •  Agriculture.

Day 2
  • Rural Estate Management.
  • Environmental Conservation and Park Ranger
  • Forestry.

Day 3
  • Arboriculture.
  • Post-Covid opportunities, employment considerations and Next Steps.

From an attendee’s perspective this is an opportunity to start developing an understanding of Land-Based Sector employment and self-employment opportunities. To understand career paths in particular sectors, and entry level requirements such as tickets required for chainsaw or telehandler operation, for example. And of course, the opportunity to start networking.
