The work civil servants carry out touches on all aspects of life in the UK, from education and the environment, to transport and defence. With over 400,000 civil servants across more than 70 departments, the diversity of roles available is far reaching.
Come and meet the Going Forward into Employment (GFiE) team at this interactive event aimed at helping you to explore Civil Service opportunities.
This event will outline the scheme in general, but will specifically focus on opportunities within the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
GFIE is a scheme specifically aimed at removing employment barriers associated with the application process to help individuals build necessary skills & experiences for a fulfilling career in the Civil Service.
This event is open to all military Service Leavers, Veterans and Spouses and Partners of individuals who meet the following criteria:
- Served in the Armed Forces for at least a day
- Be in your resettlement period and due to leave the Armed Forces within a reasonable time frame
- Military Spouse/Partner: Your current partner must still be serving OR was discharged within the last 12 months
We want you to join us, learn new skills and bring your experience to our organisation. We believe that everyone has the potential to make a difference, and we want to ensure that all our staff are equipped with the knowledge and skills to do so. As part of your employment, you will have access to a range of learning and development, and a buddy who can help you to understand the Civil Service and enable you to make the most of the opportunities it offers.

- Hear about the GFiE scheme and its different routeways which aim to help remove barriers to employment
- Understand how you can access employment opportunities through the scheme and what the different application process entails
- See some recent success stories where people have joined the Civil Service through the scheme
- Be able to ask questions and engage with us around our schemes offer and Civil Service employment
