Transferring Military Skills to the Renewables Industry
Bdaily business news website recently published details of a new training initiative which is paving the way for ex-service personnel to break into a career in the wind energy industry.

The initiative is being jointly operated between the 3sun Group and Newcastle-based Maersk Training, a Preferred Supplier to the CTP. The course aims to use the existing engineering skills held by many Service leavers to help them develop new careers in the expanding renewables industry.

The course comprises industry recognised technical training covering wind turbine erection and servicing, plus industry required safety competencies ranging from Work at Height and Rescue through to Sea Survival. Upon successful completion of the first course last year, twelve ex Service leavers have now been assigned to wind turbine construction projects working for Dawson Energy, a 3sun Group company providing skilled technicians for the installation and servicing of wind turbines on and offshore.

Stuart Cameron, Maersk Training’s managing director, said: “We are delighted to be working with 3sun Group on this initiative. Thousands of men and women leave the forces every year and this provides an opportunity for some of them to put their skills and experiences to good use in a new career.”
