CTP resettlement support in Germany

This film features a Career Transition Workshop taking place at RRC Herford in Germany, and highlights how Service leavers on the workshop are able to compare military to civilian life and to start thinking about their transferrable skills, such as leadership, management and flexibility. A private speaks about how the workshop helps attendees to realise what they are capable of, and that everyone has their own unique individual qualities and skills that they can offer to civilian life.

After the army: settling in Germany

This film features the story of Vernon Seddon, who decided to settle in Germany upon completing his career in the Army. Vernon found his current civilian job via the CTP and advises other Service leavers to prepare, to have good language ability, to understand the German culture, and to research all that is required for living on the German net. Vernon says that he spent 7 years preparing for life outside the forces, but also adds that it’s never too late to consider a German career – he loved his life in the Armed Forces but has no regrets now about settling in Germany.

Ex-soldier deals with redundancy

This film focuses on the experiences of Jim Dewar, who left the forces via redundancy, and now works as a contractor for London Underground. He says ‘it’s just a question of re-tuning’ and adapting your skills to a civilian role. Jim also speaks about how out of 11 in his team, 9 are ex-military; his chief executive is also ex-forces and recognised the value Service leavers can bring to an organisation. Jim highlights how Service leavers bring with them the experience of ‘staying calm when everything is going horribly wrong’, along with the ability to stand back, take in information, and ‘sort the wheat from the chaff’. Jim’s message to other Service leavers is that thousands of people have been through this process over the years, and it’s important to make the most of your network – you never know who could lead you to your next job.

AFF Chief offers redundancy advice

In this film, Catherine Spencer, Chief Executive of the Army Families Federation speaks about the recent Tranche 3 redundancy announcements, and highlights the importance of engaging with the CTP and other support agencies to start investigating housing, education and employment.
