Delivering Cycle Maintenance Training in Association with The Bike Inn
We work directly with the experts over at The Bike Inn to deliver two comprehensive cycle maintenance training courses. Both of which are designed to cater for amateur cyclists looking to gain maintenance skills and improve their cycling technique.

IMI Level 3 Certificate in Cycle Maintenance

Our ELCAS approved course will provide you with the knowledge and practical skills needed to master all elements of build and maintenance for standard bicycles and E-Bikes; including wheel building, frames, brakes, tyres, and gears.

You’ll be allowed to bring your own bike in to work on, and once you’ve completed the course there will be opportunities to network, seek further self-employment and ask for technical assistance. Plus, depending on the time of year and frequency of races, there may also be a chance for you to shadow lead mechanics at the World Tour and UCI races!

So, if you’re interested, our next Level 3 Cycle Maintenance course takes place on 27th February 2023, with full details available on our website.

Cycling Essentials

Alternatively, our 5-day Cycling Essentials course is tailored specifically for Service leavers, and provides you with the knowledge and skills to inspect, maintain and repair your own bikes. You’ll learn how to gain maximum enjoyment from your cycling experience, and understand the principles of training and recovery needed to achieve personal cycling goals or ambitions.

To ensure you get the most out of the course, assessments of your cycling and bike(s) are provided, enabling the instructors to provide you with a training plan that will help you track your own development.

Our next Cycling Essentials course takes place on 20th March 2023, so please head over to our website if you’d like to register your interest.

From CTP training to a career in cycle maintenance

We recently spoke with Ian Astley, who since completing his IMI Level 3 Cycle Maintenance training course, has gone on to establish his own business in cycle maintenance:

“I knew I was interested in running my own businesses but didn’t know much about how to do it. The Self-Employment Awareness course reinforced my desire to go down this path, and gave a realistic picture of the advantages, pitfalls and work that was required to succeed in self-employment.

"I used my Enhanced Learning Credits to undertake the Institute of Motor Industry Level 3 Bicycle Mechanic Course at The Bike Inn. This has given me the highest possible professional qualification in cycle maintenance, and has enabled me to establish a small business as a home and mobile cycle mechanic – Glen Valley Cycles ([email protected]).

"Through my time with the Bike Inn, I gained an opportunity (post-course) to attend a CWA as Assistance Mechanic for a UCI International female cycling team at the Tour L’Ardeche. I was responsible for preparing and maintaining the bicycles, equipment and van, and operated as mechanic in the team car behind the riders during 7 days of racing. My skills as a mechanic improved, I got an insight into the world of professional international cycle racing, and I received offers of further work in this field as a result of the contacts I made. Ultimately, it provided me with an invaluable experience and has boosted my cycle mechanic CV.”
