Maximise Your Job Search Success with CTP RightJob RightJob is our online job finding service that lists thousands of live vacancies for Service leavers, with new ones added every day. We work with hundreds of employers who recognise the talent pool leaving the Armed Forces and the experience and strong working ethos Service leavers bring with them after a military career.

How to access RightJob

Access to RightJob is through myPlan on the CTP website at www.ctp.org.uk

Helpful hints to get the most out of using RightJob

Did you know RightJob has a range of helpful video tips demonstrating how the site works? The link for these is located at the top-left of the page by your name, once you have logged into RightJob. Video topics range from setting up your profile to browsing for jobs and setting up job alerts.

Setting Up Your Profile




Remember to populate your profile correctly and this is accessible from the profile tab on the menu at the top of the screen once logged in to RightJob. Note hints and tips on the right hand side of page include advice on – CV checklist, covering letter and email addresses.

  • In the Personal Information tab, you can change your email address and indicate your Available Working Date.
  • In the Skills and Preferences and Qualifications tabs add any relevant Skills, Licences, Desired Industries, Desired Locations (UK and Worldwide) and Qualifications. All can be selected from the drop-down lists and added to your profile. This is really important to ensure you are matched for jobs that meet your criteria and without these sections complete, you will not be notified automatically of any suitable vacancies and you may miss out on a great opportunity.
  • On the CV tab you should upload a current copy of your generic CV, which is also used to match you with appropriate job vacancies. You can save up to 5 CVs on your RightJob account - and remember, each application should be made with a targeted CV.

Job matches

You can search and apply for vacancies using the Search for jobs today box on the RightJob homepage, as well as saving a bespoke search for use in the future. When the results are displayed, click on 'Save this search and receive Daily Job Alerts'.

In the Job Matches tab at the top of the page, you can view the vacancies that you have been notified about manually by a CTP Employment Advisor, or automatically via Profile Notifications, as well as your saved Job Alerts.

Job Applications

If you are applying for a vacancy on RightJob that requires you to write a covering letter, create the covering letter in a Word document on your computer then copy and paste it into the free text box on RightJob. RightJob has a time-out facility of 15 minutes for security purposes, and so saving the covering letter in Word allows you to check spelling and grammar thoroughly before you submit it, and stops you from possibly losing any work.

Help and assistance

If you forget your password, use the Forgotten password button in the top right-hand corner of the CTP website homepage. RightJob will send a password reset link to your email account so as you can reset your password. This link is only valid for 5 days, and please bear in mind, your new password needs to be ‘strong’ or it will not be accepted by the website. A 'strong' password uses a mixture of upper and lower case letters, numbers and characters.

Be prepared to respond to phone calls or emails

Once you have applied for a job you must be prepared to respond to phone calls or emails from individuals you have not heard of. It may be a company trying to make contact with you in order to arrange an interview or to take it to the next stage of the company recruitment process. Please make sure that your answer message set on your phone is appropriate and professional in case a company may need to leave a message. First impressions count not only visibly but what you say.
