CTP Success: Supporting Luke Rowswell on his resettlement journey Background

Luke Rowswell left the Army as a Private in 2021 after serving for more than 12 years and took up resettlement support with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP).

"I enjoyed most of my time in the Service, and while there were elements of serving in the Army I didn’t enjoy, I have been to places and achieved things I would never have done if not for the Army."

Resettlement

Once registered with the CTP, Luke attended a 3-day Career Transition Workshop (CTW) to familiarise himself with the civilian work environment:

"I attended a 3-day CTW in the first month of my resettlement. It was very helpful in providing me with an insight into civilian employment, especially after serving for so long and being away from it all."

Luke then goes on to speak about the usefulness of utilising the CTP’s online job portal, RightJob:

"In my terminal leave I made the most of CTP’s RightJob platform. I even managed to find the job that I’m currently employed in – so I would definitely recommend it."

Successful Outcome

Luke is now an HGV Class 1 Driver for Bactons Transport, where his military experience and resettlement journey have put him in good stead:

"My job currently entails delivering to ALDI stores overnight. I didn’t face any challenges when settling into the job, and thankfully have a really great team supporting me who are a massive help."

Advice

As his closing words of advice to fellow Service leavers, Luke goes on to say:

"There are so many opportunities for you outside of the military. So don’t write anything off – your next role may surprise you."
