CTP Candidate Success – Working as a Service Desk Analyst

June 2019 saw Laurie Parry join the Smart Fleet Solutions (SFS) family at our Central Services site in Holmes Chapel, Cheshire, after meeting the team at a CTP event earlier in the year. Her varied role as a Service Desk Analyst sees her providing first line helpdesk and technical support to internal customers, assisting with hardware and software problems, and responding to all queries in a timely manner.
The wide range of technologies and hardware Laurie provides support with include PCs and printers, active directory, Office 365, bespoke android applications and Dynamics NAV.
Laurie worked for the British Army as a Communications Systems Operator (2009-2015), and was responsible for setting up a main communications HQ, active directory and delivering a wide variety of application training. She also installed, monitored and reported on a wide range of communications.
With over 12 years’ experience in military and commercial systems, Laurie was the perfect candidate for the Service Desk Analyst position. Her knowledge of customer service and her technical Office 365 experience made Laurie’s transition seamless.
She communicates across all levels of the business and is valued for her ability to work under pressure and remain adaptable. Her Post-Graduate Certificate in Radio Engineering and Wireless Technologies has also brought Laurie’s phone systems experience into the organisation.
At Smart Fleet Solutions, technology is integrated into every part of the business from office-based work in Central Services to our bespoke software on tablets used in the workshop. On a day to day basis, Laurie responds to work tickets on our in-house portal, and uses various in-house technologies that she was provided on the job training for.
Her responsibilities include remotely accessing our remote software packages, helping to resolve software and hardware issues, and ensuring our bespoke internal software is in order. Our software includes Nav, Office 365, Sharepoint, Mobicontrol, our SFS internal apps, remote logins and much more.
Now fully settled into her role, Laurie, who also has an NVQ Level 3 in Information Technology and Communications, tells us more about her transition into civilian life with Smart Fleet Solutions:
“I spoke to the Smart Fleet Solutions team at the CTP job fair about my skills and what I was looking for from a new role. The Operations Director mentioned that there was a Service Desk Analyst position available at their Central services site in Holmes Chapel that matched my skill set.
I passed over a CV and contact information to the team and they called me after to ask me to meet with the IT Manager and discuss the Service Desk position. The interview was informal and in a really relaxed environment, it felt like a friendly chat with the team.”
Laurie enjoys the variety of her role, learning new things and the people she works with. She is also looking to further developing her career with Smart Fleet Solutions in Software Development.
