Service Technician

Working within London Heathrow Airport, the Service Technician will be performing maintenance duties to ensure productivity and output, equipment availability, health & safety compliance, quality, Maximo reporting and team working are all optimised in accordance with agreed timescales.

Persona

This role would suit an individual who is patient and consistently performs in a structured and predictable climate. The incumbent should be friendly by nature and have the ability to build relationships. Persistence and the need to see a job through to conclusion are integral to the function, and you’ll need to have the ability to work to clearly defined parameters. If you’re well organised, dependable, approachable, composed, amiable, friendly and fairly strong-willed, then this role would be great for you.

Vanderlande Values and Accountabilities

Ownership
  • To be proficient in all aspects of the operation and maintenance procedures.
  • Electrical fault-finding and fault-rectification skills, including the replacement and configuration of field devices (motor controllers, sensors, scanners etc).
  • To repair and maintain all equipment through a proactive approach of planned preventative maintenance, with a "right first time" approach.
  • To seek permanent solutions through a culture of continuous improvement and ensure rapid response to breakdown situations with effective corrective maintenance regimes.
  • To enter all work carried out and parts used into Maximo
  • To be conversant and capable of working in all areas:
- Baggage Conveyors
- ULD Systems
- Automatic storage cranes
- Individual Carrier Systems
- Robotic baggage handling machinery
- Manual handling aids

Build Reputation With Customers
  • Interface to customer in a professional and courteous manner, be it face to face, by telephone, or email.
  • Ensure contract SLAs are consistently achieved and improved
Drive To Win
  • Perform planned preventative, corrective and reactive maintenance in a timely manner as required. Record all work done and parts used in CMMS system (Maximo) where applicable.
Team Play
  • Provide cover for other service technicians / shifts when necessary.
  • Ensure thorough knowledge transfer through sharing of knowledge and information.
Everyday Better
  • Carry out routine maintenance duties including, but not limited to: operational checks, functionality checks, cleaning, adjustment, lubrication and monitoring.
  • Look to find root cause of issues and find permanent solutions to issues encountered.

  • Ensure all company legislative Health & Safety regulations and policies are maintained.
  • Work in a safe considerate manner, leaving all work areas clean and tidy at all times.
Skills & Experience:
  • Demonstrate problem/fault finding skills.
  • Understand how to collect and validate sufficient information to carry out effective root cause analysis, and develop recommendations for implementation
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate precisely at all levels.
  • Be computer literate.
  • Able to read and interpret drawings.
  • Able to plan and prioritise workload.
  • Able to work on your own initiative and as a member of a team.
  • Dress smartly, behave professionally and be respectful to all people.
  • Work overtime as required.
  • Be experienced in the use of PPM systems.
Essential
  • Time served apprenticeship or equivalent
  • City & Guilds/NVQ level 3 or above in maintenance mechanical/electrical discipline
  • Previous experience within an FMCG manufacturing or automated warehousing environment (desirable).
  • To have the ability to obtain and maintain a full airside pass.
  • Lean Six Sigma trained to a minimum of yellow belt, or demonstratable experience in CI project delivery.
  • A proactive approach to fault finding alongside excellent communication skills.
  • Be a team player with a flexible and pragmatic attitude.
  • Be willing to hold an airside driving license (driving license required to access this).
Desirable

  • Multiskilled
  • Have experience in using PLC’s and diagnostics
  • Have experience in training/coaching
