Pennine Mencap Seek the Missing Piece of the Puzzle

Category: Recruitment Publish date: 02/08/2021

Pennine Mencap Seek the Missing Piece of the Puzzle Oldham-based charity Pennine Mencap have been awarded a three year grant by the National Lottery Community Fund. The funding is for this uniquely positioned organisation to fulfil crucial work with deprived adults who have learning disabilities and autism in Oldham and Tameside.

This funding has already enabled the charity to recruit two staff on three year contracts as part of the Branching Out project. However, one of the three funded roles remains vacant. Could you be the missing piece of the puzzle?

The position of Development Worker is a crucial role within a small team, and Pennine Mencap are determined to find the right candidate. Thinking outside the box, the charity’s management want to look beyond the social care and not-for-profit sector. Applicants from within the care sector simply haven’t ticked the right boxes.

Operational Manager Claire Jepson has a clear vision."We’re looking for a confident individual, who can communicate clearly and think strategically. Motivating an isolated young adult with autism or complex disabilities to break negative habits and build a positive routine can require months of work. It needs the determination and tactical thought process that comes with military experience. I believe that is how we’ll find the right candidate."

Experience supporting adults who have a learning disability or autism is not essential for the role. The charity will provide full training and the support of an experienced team. What you need to bring is the right personal attributes and the determination to change lives. So if you’re looking for a truly fulfilling career with all the right kind of challenges, this could be the move for you. And while the initial funded contract is for three years, there is every opportunity for this to be the first chapter of a much bigger story.

To help us find the right candidate, we’re working with Career Transition Partnership to provide Service leavers with a direct route to our organisation. So if you’re interested, you can apply for this role via RightJob, by clicking here.
