Northern Gas Networks – Who we are

Category: Recruitment Publish date: 03/05/2023

Northern Gas Networks – Who we are We deliver gas to 2.7 million homes and businesses in the North East, Northern Cumbria and much of Yorkshire - that’s around 6.7million individual customers!

We don’t generate or sell the gas, but we transport it to homes and businesses in our region through a vast network of underground pipes. In fact, we own and maintain more than 37,000km of gas pipes - enough to stretch from Leeds to Sydney and back again.

We cover large cities like Newcastle, Sunderland, Leeds, York, Hull, and Bradford, and our work extends to rural areas like North Yorkshire and Cumbria. We provide the region’s gas emergency service – responding rapidly to gas emergencies around the clock – and are replacing old gas mains with over 3,800 kilometres of modern new ones, so the communities we serve receive a safe and reliable gas supply for generations to come.

We value our community

Everything we do is focused on keeping our customers safe and warm, our colleagues healthy and inspired and delivering outstanding, sustainable value to ensure that we lead the way in establishing a fairer, greener future for all of our Northern communities.

We translate this into a unique set of values that reflect and reinforce our culture:

Trailblazing: We’re putting people first and championing collaborative thinking and revolutionary practices every step of the way.

Intellectually curious: We believe in the power of combining intelligence, experience and curiosity to deliver innovative, invigorating, future-proof and sustainable ideas.

Community focused: We’re loyal, supportive and respectful towards one another and the community we live and work in.

Empowered: We encourage individuality, teamwork, passion, courage, new experiences, growth and change.

Heartfelt: We want everyone to be recognised for their passionate, proud and heartfelt desire to do their very best.
We have a wide variety of roles available in both our operations and non-operations business areas.

Our Gas Operatives are truly at the heart of our organisation and really do make a difference to the lives of our customers and communities. The role requires you to be hardworking, dedicated, committed, and flexible - as this role will require early starts and evening work too (rotas provided in advance). You’ll also have to work in adverse weather conditions, so this is another important consideration before you apply.

Full training and qualifications will be provided in this role, and throughout your career with NGN.
