But don’t just take our word for it – hear from one of our Service leaver employees yourself:

James Lambert, Offshore Project Manager:

“Whilst I didn't have an overly lengthy military career, my 8 years working in Petroleum Supply for the United States Army was quite rewarding in itself. Working side by side with civilian contractors in a warzone, I quickly learned that my skills could be utilised and compensated to a higher standard by reconsidering my career options.

"The investment in further education being one of the benefits of service has more than paid off as I was able to use my military knowledge of the oil and gas industry, along with a newly acquired technical degree and certifications to interview and get a job with one of the largest oilfield service providers in the world. I started off as a seismic data acquisition specialist, working on survey ships all over the world, side by side with colleagues often from over twenty different countries on a single crew. To say this new career was life altering would be an understatement. It’s very much like being assigned to a new unit in the Army, as you never know who you'll meet, what their backgrounds and experience levels are, or what the overall goal may be; but you must come together, persevere, and accomplish the task as a team. All of those team building exercises from the military, along with the leadership courses they put you through and our inherent loyalty to the team and project is directly transferable offshore, and can equate to a very rewarding transition both in terms of personal growth and accomplishment, and of course your financial situation.

"Fast forward 16 years, now having moved my country of residence and with an all-new employer, I find myself leading offshore survey projects for one of the UK's leading marine survey companies whilst being exposed to all the main players in not only the oil and gas industry, but renewables like offshore wind as well. For someone who is safety oriented as well as having those commercial goals always at the forefront, the Army values of Loyalty, Duty, Respect, and Integrity shine on a daily basis.”
