We have a dedicated programme - ‘Ready2Work Military’ - which supports veterans in finding civilian roles in facilities management. The programme is aligned with our proud commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant which we hold a Gold Award in, as we recognise that servicemen and women have unique skills and training that can add real value to the business.

With our Ready2Work Military programme, we offer serving personnel a 2-week placement in the world of facilities management. We help them decide which area of the business they would like to experience, and provide mentorship and guidance throughout their stay by pairing them up with a veteran within our ranks. This is great opportunity for the individual to gain experience, ask questions and gather knowledge in the facilities management area.

At present, we have over 450 veterans in employment across a variety of roles, and our research has found that over two-thirds of Service leavers felt their skillset was a good match to the facilities management industry, with over three-quarters recommending the sector to other Armed Forces leavers.

“We've got a good support network, and I know that if I've got any problems with work or if I’m suffering, I can go to them, I can turn to my teammates, my leaders or anyone at Mitie. And I can relate to anyone of my ex-forces colleagues who may be suffering from mental ill-health because I've experienced it myself. I know what they're going through.” - Gerald Hyde

“I used to attend quite a lot of job fairs, and I would attract many soldiers into the contract itself. I also volunteer locally with Workington schools, speaking to students in their last year and then trying to help them and guide them towards CV writing and interview prep.” - Kevin Slater

“I went on my Career Transition Workshop. I was a Sergeant at the time, and they said, you know, what do you do? And I was like, right, you know, I managed people, I've managed vehicles, managed equipment, and they sort of said, have you ever thought of FM? And I was like, never heard of it. What is it? Let’s have a look. As part of my resettlement, I then did a four-week FM course in Aldershot.” - Stacy Farnell

We currently have over 2000 vacancies, offering a huge variety of career pathways to meet everyone’s needs. Vacancies are available across all 5 of our core business areas:
  • Business Services

This year, we’ll be attending 9 CTP events in order to help Service leavers find a new career that’s right for them. However, if you’re already interested in working with us, you can find all of our job listings and work placement opportunities advertised on RightJob.
