Veolia and CTP - Saluting Success

In this newsletter, we wanted you to see for yourself the great work Veolia does with the CTP to support you in your transition.

Hear Kate Parry’s story, as she transitioned from The Royal Fleet Auxiliary to a Facilities Maintenance apprentice at Veolia:

“I'm three months into my role and have already utilised many skills and knowledge from my time in the RFA. This includes working on or with tools, identifying systems and faults, air handling units, mechanical seals, diesel pumps, and high voltage systems.

"Initially, I took a break from engineering to readjust to civilian life. Now that I’m back and continuing to learn, I’ve overcome many obstacles both physical and mental. Many veterans and serving personnel, no matter how much time served, generally struggle to transition back to civilian life for a variety of reasons. For me, this was mentally and adjusting to having hearing loss.

"Thankfully, Veolia has a great support network, veterans and reservists who you can connect with, as well as great knowledge and methods to continually support veterans. Any adjustments I’ve needed have been made immediately and any support I’ve needed has been provided.

"As an apprentice engineer, every day is different. I know most jobs advertise this, but honestly, there is always something new happening or to learn. Apprenticeships are like any other job, full of learning curves and hard work, but equally rewarding. And now I’m doing the role every day, I firmly believe anyone can be an engineer!

"On a day-to-day basis, I assist other engineers with pre-planned maintenance and breakdowns or repairs around the site. This is carried out on a variety of systems from fire systems to heat exchangers and air-handling units.

"I chose to work at Veolia as the company focuses on communities and ecological transformation. In simpler terms, we care about the environment and preserving the earth for generations to come. We’re ecologically conscious in every aspect of our operations and this is important to me.

"Better yet, Veolia is a disability-confident employer. I have hearing loss and tinnitus and was quite apprehensive about starting the apprenticeship in case I needed any adjustments or specialist equipment. Since joining however, I’ve received nothing but support and respect, and am 100% treated as equal. I’ve been welcomed into a very accepting team who looks after one another.

"My advice to anyone considering Veolia, is to do it. Joining Veolia means you can help communities close to you, protect the environment, and join a company that cares for its employees. I would encourage anyone from any walk of life to pursue their career no matter what doubts or apprehensions they may have. Veolia and my team at Nutricia have made me feel so welcome, and now I can pursue my dream career.”
