Would you like to make a difference at the Met Office? Founded in 1854, the Met Office is the UK’s national meteorological service and one of the world’s most accurate forecasters. Operating from our iconic headquarters in Exeter and 60 other locations around the world, we provide critical weather services and world-leading climate science to help people make better decisions to live and work safely and productively.

We support the UK Government, businesses, emergency responders, the military and the public to make informed short and long-term choices, making the world safer and more resilient.

Through expert meteorology, world-leading science and cutting-edge technology our weather and climate forecasts span the entire globe from the sea floor to outer space.

Our culture, people and values

Our culture, people and values are at the heart of everything we do, and together they make the Met Office a great place to work. Our values were created by our employees and are a unique expression of our Met Office personality - they’re what we stand for, our behaviours, and why we come to work. Which is why we’ve embedded them into our recruitment process to help us attract people whose personal values and behaviours match ours.

Our experts span a range of disciplines including weather forecasting and observation, climate science, technology and IT, engineering, customer and stakeholder management, and corporate services. They come from different professional and personal backgrounds with a shared commitment to helping us make a difference.

We recognise great minds don’t always think alike, and we like it that way. We’re committed to being an inclusive organisation which provides a working culture that actively values and unlocks the potential of an equal and diverse workforce. So, if you like being part of a team and relish a challenge, while recognising the importance of personal development and having a work-life balance, you might want to think about joining us!

We welcome people from a range of backgrounds, and those from the military join as meteorologists, engineers, product managers and team leaders. Our Mobile Met Unit, which is an RAF Sponsored Reserves Unit, provides meteorological opportunities for our staff to support defence operations and exercises in the UK, and around the world.
