We’re creating the next generation of military vehicles, and you can be a part of it Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL) is a defence engineering company specialising in the design, manufacture and support of military vehicles used by the British Army and international customers.

RBSL was launched in July 2019 as a new, UK-based and independent joint venture business between BAE Systems and German defence firm, Rheinmetall. We have a proud heritage, having designed and delivered many of the Army’s armoured vehicle fleets under different business names.

We have a skilled workforce of more than 590 employees, including 260 engineers, across our UK sites in Telford, Dorset, Bristol, and near Newcastle.

In 2020, we received an £800m contract to upgrade 148 British Army Challenger 2 Main Battle Tanks. The upgraded vehicle, to be called Challenger 3, will be a network-enabled, digital Main Battle Tank with state-of-the-art lethality, upgraded survivability, and world-class surveillance and target acquisition capabilities.

We’ve also secured a key role on the UK MOD’s £2.3bn Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV) programme, which will deliver over 600 Boxer vehicles to the British Army across four configurations. Under an £860m subcontract, RBSL will manufacture two of these configurations, undertaking the fabrication of the vehicle structures, together with the assembly, integration and test of the complete vehicles.

As a result of these two key programmes as well as our In Service Support offering, we’re currently undergoing an exciting period of growth.

The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise by the nation ensuring that those who serve or who have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, are treated fairly.

As a silver member of the covenant, we’re proud to have re-signed our commitment to the scheme and will strive to achieve the Gold Award in 2023.
