Veolia: An Armed Forces-Friendly Employer About Veolia

The UK leader in environmental solutions, Veolia provides a comprehensive range of waste, water and energy management services designed to build the circular economy and preserve scarce raw materials. We’re helping our customers contribute to a more sustainable and greener future by:-
  • Collecting and transforming both domestic and industrial waste, recycling materials through our Materials Recovery facilities or transforming non-recyclable waste into electricity in our Energy Recovery facilities. We’re diverting waste to landfill, meaning biodiversity and the surrounding environment is better protected.
  • Offering expertise, through design and optimisation, in the sustainable management of water resources. Water is facing three major issues: shortage, pollution, and climate change. We help our customers provide fresh residential drinking water and treat their wastewater safely to prevent pollution.
  • Develop innovative solutions to reduce energy consumption and carbon footprint. We’re encouraging customers to use renewable energy sources in order to reduce their emissions. We design and maintain combined heating and power solutions for hospitals, universities and commercial customers.

Our Commitment to the Armed Forces Community

Veolia is committed to offering ex-service personnel meaningful and successful civilian careers upon leaving the forces because we see the skills and experiences gained in the army as essential for our workforce. We have resigned the Armed Forces Covenant to further advocate our commitment to the Armed Forces Community and have an active Armed Forces Support policy.

Our Roles

Veolia has over 14,000 employees in the UK and Ireland alone. We offer a range of roles, roughly grouped into the following areas:
  • Operative roles: Our operatives are the biggest part of our workforce and work on a range of sites across the UK. This could be alongside local councils helping to deliver effective waste collection services, onsite ensuring the safe movement and processing of materials or even driving our Light/Heavy Goods vehicles.
  • Technical roles: We rely on technical expertise to drive innovation and maintain our hundreds of sites across the UK. Technical roles could include electrical or mechanical engineers who maintain plants, equipment or vehicles, or chemists who help us ensure environmental compliance. We also have a central team who are responsible for the design, construction and testing of new infrastructure.
  • Corporate functions: Corporate functions such as HR, IT, Finance and Sales form an integral part of our workforce. Together, these teams are providing the services that the rest of the organisation need to work effectively and efficiently.

We believe that the Armed Forces community have skills and experience that would suit a wide range of roles across all of these business units, and would encourage ex-military personnel to explore opportunities that may be a little different to their military experience.
