From a Secure Communications Instructor to Telecoms Technical Trainer and Director: Gavin Mitchell’s Success Story

Gavin was an Electronics Technician in TG3 (now TG4) of the RAF, working on both Ground Radio and Air Defence systems. Gavin ended his time in Service as a Secure Communications Instructor at RAF Cosford.
Fast forward fourteen years and Gavin is now a Director at Mpirical - a global telecoms training provider.
Combining the large amount of technical training that his military days gave him, with the core skills it means to be a Serviceman, Gavin has transitioned to delivering technology training worldwide and is responsible for training delivery, course development, team management and business strategy.
Not only did Gavin leave the military with unrivalled technical knowledge, his background as an instructor in the RAF presented him with unique skills that would stand him in good stead to progress quickly within the private sector:
“Not being phased by travelling all over the world to some very different places enabled me to deliver essential training to telecoms organisations worldwide. The high level of self-organisation that is engrained in the forces really helps with project management and course development; and the confidence to stand in front of a room of people and keep their attention for days at a time – that’s something I can attribute to being ex-military… I’m also excellent at ironing shirts...”
With this unique foundation of skills, Gavin was able to progress quickly from technical trainer, to technical manager, and finally to Director.
