Container Terminal Operatives (Straddle Drivers) A key part of container handling is managing the movements of shipping containers within the Port, a role in which many of the current Terminal Management Team have learned their trade. Now, new operatives are required to cope with the current business expansion and that’s where Container Terminal Straddle Drivers come in.

Employed directly by Port of Tilbury London Ltd, the role begins with three weeks of one-to-one training in driving the equipment and general Port operations with one of our accredited RTITB trainers. After passing, you will be given full responsibility to work alongside the team on the Terminal.

The Role

• Safely operating a 70 tonne Container Handling Straddle Carrier
• Identifying and moving containers to and from vessels, trucks and trains
• Distributing shipping containers throughout our storage yards

Successful candidates will have

• Full UK Driving Licence
• Ability to work at heights
• The flexibility, positivity & reliability to work days, nights and weekends on a 5 in 7 basis
• Experience of working within a port environment or with heavy plant is preferred but not essential
