The work civil servants carry out touches on all aspects of life in the UK, from education and the environment, to transport and defence. And with over 400,000 civil servants across more than 70 departments, there’s a career path available for everyone.
Going Forward into Employment (GFiE) is a scheme specifically aimed at removing employment barriers associated with the application process, and helping individuals build necessary skills & experiences for a fulfilling career in the Civil Service.
It can offer you direct placements into a Civil Service role, or a short-term internship which can lead to a Fixed Term Appointment.
The GFIE Team are hosting a second ‘Online Awareness with Questions and Answers’ session on 15th June 2023 between 10:00 and 12:00. This event is open to all military personnel who meet the following criteria:
- Still serving but currently in your resettlement period.
Or
- Have served in the Armed Forces for at least 1 year.
- Be within 5 years of leaving the Armed Forces
- Be within 10 years of leaving the Armed Forces if you were Medically Discharged
Or
- The Spouse or Partner of someone meeting the above criteria.
We’d love for you to join us, learn new skills and bring your experience to our organisation. We believe that everyone has the potential to make a difference and want to ensure that all our staff are equipped with the knowledge and skills to do so.
As part of your employment, you’ll have access to a range of learning and development opportunities, as well as a buddy who can help you to understand the Civil Service and make the most of the opportunities that are available.
During the event, you will:
Learn more about who the Civil Service are, what it does and some of the benefits of working there
Hear about the GFiE scheme and its different pathways which aim to help remove barriers to employment
Understand how you can access employment opportunities through the scheme and what the different application processes entail
See some recent success stories where people have joined the Civil Service through the scheme
Be able to ask questions and engage with us around our schemes offering and Civil Service employment
