Josh Lambert - Laminator

My name is Josh lambert, I’m 27 and from Portland, Dorset. I joined the army at a very young 18, if I had joined before 2007 I would have been recruited straight into the Devonshire & Dorset however after the amalgamation I ended up at 4th Battalion The Rifles in Bulford.

I spent 7 years as a Rfn, starting out in a rifle company for a couple of years before getting into 4th Rifles, reconnaissance platoon, a job which took me on many exercises across the UK, Canada, Kenya, India and the Falklands. I deployed to Afghan on Herrick 18 as part of the brigade reconnaissance force (BRF) in 2013 taking part in many operations and crash outs all over Helmand, this was the highlight of my military career. We were lying in areas with strong insurgent activity tasked with removing enemy lethal aid such as IEDs, components and weapons caches.

I decided to call it a day due to family commitments, I left in late November 2015 and had a couple of short term jobs whilst finding my feet. Then I came across Sunseeker, a company I had heard about on more than one occasion. Without any experience at all I applied as a trainee laminator and got the job.

I’ve worked with Sunseeker now since November 2016, working on the 66/76 and 86 flybridge moulds as a laminator. I’ve been put forward for courses such as crane operator which includes an NVQ that I can use on different sites. I feel Sunseeker is a great place to work especially coming out of the military as you work in close knit teams most of the time, the people here were also very welcoming and keen to help me learn. I found that it gives you a similar feeling of having your muckers around you all the time making it easy to settle in, it has also offered me a new skill set and a decent wage.
