Carl Leek: From REME to Sunseeker Engineer

I enlisted into the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in April 2009. I deployed on Operations to the Falkland Islands, Africa and Saudi Arabia and conducted Exercises in Brunei, Malaysia and Cyprus. A Vehicle Mechanic by trade i was responsible for maintaining a variety of vehicles throughout my time in the Army.

I conducted initial training at Army Training Regiment Bassingbourn, before moving on to trade training at the Defence School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Bordon, where i studied mechanical engineering. I then completed my Command, Leadership and Management courses leading to professional qualifications.

My first employment, as a Section Commander was for the Royal Engineers in the Falkland Islands In this role i was responsible for a fleet of C vehicles and airfield damage repair equipment, I was then assigned to 2 Royal Ghurkha Rifles, Brunei. managing the fleet of vehicles and providing much needed equipment support. I was later deployed to Liwonde national park Malawi to support a peace time effort counter poaching operation, in charge of maintaining a fleet of vehicles and  LNP Ranger boats.

My final assignment saw me move to a much greater technical role within 16th Regiment Royal Artillery. Supporting Land Environment Air Picture Provision capability. A niche capability of air surveillance radars. I deployed on Operation Floridan in the Middle East maintaining and inspecting vehicles and radar equipment,
After 14 years of service I decided to leave the Army after much deliberation and wished to proceed within a new challenging role within the civilian sector. Whilst on my career transition workshop i noticed that Sunseeker were looking for mechanical engineers and the rest is history.

I joined Sunseeker in March 2023 as an engineer and have been working predominantly on the 100 yacht.
I can already see that Sunseeker has an abundance of development and career progression opportunities as i have already this year completed my slingers course and gained a recognised qualifications not provided within the military.
A professional company with a variety of roles that i would recommend to any service leaver looking for a new and challenging career within the Civilian world.
