Declan Mutter - Laminator

I joined the Army at the age of 17 in 2008. I had a short but enjoyable 6 years’ service.

My role in the Army was a plant operator maintainer in the Royal Engineers, based in Barnstaple with 24 Commando. My time with the Army saw me deployed to Afghanistan on Op Herrick 14 supporting the Royal Marines on the front line constructing check points and FOBs.

I left the Army through voluntary redundancy in 2014 and went into HGV driving as I wasn’t sure what career I wanted to progress in.

In 2016 I joined Sunseeker, I was very lucky to be given the opportunity to become a trainee laminator at Osprey Quay (Portland). Initially I was building the hull & deck for the San Remo (50ft), where I was taught the skills involved in wet lay laminating.

Since then we have changed the build method for the Predator 50, which has given me the opportunity to learn a new skill of dry lay up, which is known as infusion. I am also currently learning how to fit the insulation, wiring looms and the heating and ventilation system onto the deck.

Although I am relatively new to Sunseeker I am constantly learning new skills and always keen to better myself. Working for Sunseeker over the past 21 months has been brilliant and I hope to be here for many more years, with the intention of working in the final fit & finishing stages.
