The UK Power Networks Recruitment Process

Shortlisting

Once your CV has been received, it will go through the shortlisting process once the advertising period for the role has come to an end. Shortlisting is where we review your cover letter and CV against the criteria set out in the job description. Make sure you sell your skills in your cover letter. If you are unsure how to do this, please refer to our page on cover letter structure and CV structure.

If your CV and cover letter match what is required in the job description, you will be contacted by a talent acquisition partner who will then discuss the role and your application in greater detail. Following this conversation, if this role is still of interest to you, your CV then goes to the hiring manager for review.

The manager then scores your application based on the content of your CV, cover letter, competencies, knowledge, experience and, lastly, your qualifications (where necessary and if they have been specifically requested for the role). Depending on the above criteria, you are then either selected for interview or rejected at this stage. These first two parts of the recruitment process can generally take one to two weeks to complete as it depends on manager availability. Once a suitable date has been selected for interview, candidates will be notified by email and this email will have confirmation of the role, the names of the interviewers, the date and time of your interview and the location of the interview (including address). This confirmation will also detail what you should bring to your interview so please read it fully. Your talent acquisition partner can guide and assist you through this process.

Interview

Our interviews consist of competency-based questions followed by role specific questions. Please prepare for your interview! Ask questions that reflect that you have done your homework about both the role and the company. Make them relevant. Among the questions we ask at interview are those focusing on health and safety as well as those focusing on high performance, teamwork and continuous improvement.

While we cannot give specific samples of our questions, thinking of what you have learnt about the above points and how that will transfer/translate into civilian life will stand you in good stead.

Feedback

Feedback following your interview will be given within a maximum of two weeks following the interview date. Should you be selected for the role, you will be required to complete a drugs and alcohol test as well as medical screening.
