Aiding Transition into Fujitsu

Working together, adding value and providing assistance, making a real difference to transition into Fujitsu

Defence & National Security (D&NS) ran their second Industry Day on November 18 - an innovative approach to supporting members of the Armed Forces and finding the right people we need to join Fujitsu.

D&NS worked closely together with Career Transition Partnership (CTP) and Recovery Career Services to lay on another Industry Day for people from the military seeking to find employment in the commercial sector. The event was hosted by two organisers from the CTP with Rachel Marsh (Head of Capabilities in D&NS) and Bill Meads (Military Logistics application consultant). We showed that Fujitsu was a fantastic place to work for both the able bodied and those who have been medically discharged from the Military.

This was a high energy event, especially due to the interaction with our 17 guests. We want to find the right people to fill roles but often their ‘generic’ CVs do not do them justice. Our managers were able to explain what they were looking for; not just qualifications, but also experience and behaviours. This gave the candidates some valuable learning on how to make their CVs reflect achievements in a commercial way. To give one example one person has masses of project management experience but this was not mentioned in his CV – he became a ripe candidate for a project management role in Fujitsu.

The networking between the candidates and our managers was very important, highly valuable and could have gone on for many days. One of the candidates gave us the following feedback ”What really adds value is the opportunity to talk to a wide range of managers about what they are looking for and how they view qualifications, experience and behaviours”.

Another candidate remarked that “Fujitsu seems like a happy place to work and the team really work well together, I would love to be part of a team like that, How do I get into your organisation?”. Already three people are following up specific roles with us, another two are actively applying and another has already been booked on an assessment centre – more applications are expected.

This is a "win, win, win" situation. A win for the people, a win for our business and a win for our partnerships with the MOD as part of our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant.
