The Application Process

We’ve designed our recruitment and selection methods carefully, to make sure you and Anglian Water are a perfect match.

Once you’ve had the opportunity to explore the areas in which you could join us, the next step is to submit your CV and complete an online application for your chosen role.

Below, you’ll find everything you need to know about how our application and selection process works. We’ve even added in some handy hints and tips on how to impress us along the way!

The Application

The first stage of your application takes place online. Your chance to make a great impression starts as soon as you’ve selected the role you’re interested in. We’ll ask you to enter some basic personal details and upload an up-to-date, relevant CV. You’ll also create a username and password.

Once that’s all done, we may ask you to answer some application questions exploring your experience and qualifications relating to the role. That’s your initial application done. After you’ve submitted it, we’ll email you to let you know we’ve received it. Using your username and password, you’ll be able to log back in whenever you’d like to check the progress of your application.

Here are our top tips for this stage of the process:

  • Make sure your CV is up-to-date, with accurate dates and information.
  • Make sure you meet any qualification requirements.
  • Do your research. Find out about our business, then do some thinking about how you’d fit in.
  • Include relevant facts and figures.
  • Be sure that the points you make are clear and concise.
  • Take your time. You can save your application as a draft and return to it at any time before submission, which means you can take care to make it as good as possible.
  • Consider writing draft versions of your answers first, using a word processing programme. That means you’ll be able to give the answers you really want to and you’ll also be able to run a spelling and grammar check. And you can avoid the page timing out, resulting in the loss of your work!
  • Ask someone else to read through your application before you submit it, to catch any grammar and spelling mistakes you might have missed.

Online Selection Assessments

Once we’ve received your initial application, we’ll screen it to see whether it meets all our criteria. If so, you may then be invited to complete one or more online tests. The tests you’re asked to complete will vary depending on the role you’ve chosen. They may test your numerical, verbal or mechanical skills, or even your understanding and approach to customer services. The email which invites you to undertake the test will explain in detail which skill we are looking to assess.

Here are our top tips for this stage of the process:

  • Make sure your contact details are up-to-date. We’ll send your test invitation to the email address you provided with your application. If that’s not the best way to reach you – or if your details change – let us know.
  • When we send your invitation, we’ll let you know how long you’ll have to complete the test. If you’re not going to be able to meet the deadline, just get in touch.
  • Before you start your test, make sure you’re as relaxed and prepared as possible. We suggest finding a quiet space, where you know you won’t be interrupted. Then you can give the test your full attention – and give yourself the best chance of success.
  • Remember that the test is timed. It’s possible to score well even if you don’t answer every question – so if you get really stuck, move on the next question.
