About HMPPS

Who we are and what we do

HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) is an executive agency of the Ministry of Justice. With a firm focus on reducing reoffending, supporting victims, and changing lives, we are responsible for managing 105 public sector prisons and young offender institutions, plus 12 probation areas across England and Wales.

We reduce reoffending by rehabilitating the people in our care through education and employment.

We recruit for a wide range of roles, including:
  • Prison officers
  • Prison support roles (operational support grades)
  • Prison caterers
  • Prison instructional officers
  • Approved premises residential staff
  • Probation officers and probation service officers
  • Youth justice workers.
