The Interview

This is your chance to really set you apart from the rest of the competition. Preparation is the single most important factor when it comes to interviews. Good preparation should include:

Research – Find out about what Babcock does, its values, its customers and general information that will show a hiring manager you’re interested in working for Babcock.

Practice Interviews – Babcock uses various types of interviews including technical, competency based or panel interviews. Try to find out what type of interview you will be attending so you can practice accordingly. If you are unsure about a particular type of interview research it beforehand so you’re well prepared.

Be on time - There is nothing worse than turning up late to an interview. Find out where your interview is going to take place and how best to get there. Where possible you should try to factor in potential delays such as rush hour traffic. Also remember many of Babcock’s operations are on military sites and guests need to be checked in at guard rooms. At peak times this can take up to 30 minutes so remember to factor this into your timings.

Identification – Many of Babcock’s operations operate within restricted sites such as military bases. Whether you require this to gain access to your interview location should be communicated to your beforehand, however, to be safe we recommend you have a copy of photographic ID such as a passport with you.

Questions – A good way of engaging with a hiring manager is to ask them questions. Before your interview you may wish to plan some questions you could ask, these could be about the Company, the role itself or the application process.

Relax – Interviews can be scary and people do get nervous. Nerves can be beneficial to some but don’t let them get the better of you. Practice beforehand so you know what to expect and don’t be afraid in an interview to ask for a pause before you respond if you’re unsure of what to say.
