The Recruitment Process

Find all our vacancies on CTP RightJob.

Our application process is straightforward: if you’ve found a job you’d like to apply for, click the apply button to view the role on our careers site. Here you can create an account, answer a few questions about yourself and upload your CV. There are no long application forms to complete, no aptitude tests and no need for personal statements. However, always ensure your CV is up to date and tailored specifically to the role you are applying for.

Read below for further information on each step of the recruitment process, including some helpful things to consider.

Submit an application

Found a job you like the sound of?

Follow the link on the advert and complete our short application form. For best chance of success, we strongly recommend finding the essential criteria listed in the job advert and tailoring your CV to demonstrate how you meet each of these criteria. We need to see you meet all of the essential criteria before we can progress your application to the shortlist stage.

We advise creating specific sections in your CV for:

  • Key achievements
  • Relevant experience
  • Applied skills and knowledge
  • Qualifications (those relevant to the role you’re applying for)
Focus on actions you’ve taken and the quantifiable outcomes.

Shortlist

Once you’ve submitted your application, we’ll review your CV to see if your experiences, skill sets, and qualifications are a good match for the advertised role.

If your application is successful, you will receive an email inviting you to arrange a date and time for your interview. Please be aware, due to the large volume of applications we receive, we’re unable to provide feedback at this stage.

Interview

The interview will be a formal interview lasting up to one hour. During this time the interviewers will assess the following areas:
  • CV Review: A discussion on your key achievements, relevant experience and applied skills and knowledge
  • Core Behaviours: These are stated on the job advert and reflect the actions and activities that people do which result in effective performance in a job
  • Technical Competences: These are stated on the job advert and are specific professional skills or areas of subject knowledge needed to succeed in the role
Your interview will be either a virtual interview via Microsoft Teams or a face-to-face interview, depending on the type of role and the location.

Your recruiter will let you know the outcome of the interview as soon as possible. Feedback will be provided regardless of the outcome. Please note that the timescale of this will vary depending on the number of applicants being interviewed.

Provisional Offer

If you are successful in your interview and we think you’d be a great fit for DE&S, the recruitment team will be in touch to discuss your provisional offer and what happens next. The provisional offer will remain in place pending the outcome of your pre-employment checks. You are advised not to hand in your notice to your current employer at this time.

Pre-employment checks

All our roles require Security Clearance as a minimum, and once you have accepted the provisional offer, our onboarding team will begin your security checks.

These include:
  • UKSV Security Clearance
  • Health Questionnaire
  • Government Recruitment Services (GRS) - Basic Disclosure Application
  • HMRC employment history check

More information about the onboarding process can be found on our on-boarding process page.

If you already have security clearance, there is a section on the UKSV form for you to complete so that your clearance can be transferred across to MOD departments

Formal offer

Once all your checks have been completed satisfactorily, a member of the team will contact you to discuss your notice period and a suitable start date. Once this has been agreed, you will receive a formal offer by email and post. If you accept the formal offer, you can proceed to hand in your notice to your current employer.

Start your DE&S career

Your new team will be in contact to make arrangements for your first day. We look forward to having you on board.
