Eligibility

This training has no prerequisites and is open to any Service leaver. For virtual classroom courses, attendees will need to access Microsoft Teams, and be able to download reading materials sent in advance via email.
We recommend attendees have 2 screens or access to a laptop/computer alongside a tablet or phone to follow the course manual throughout.

Course Content

The IEMA Environmental Sustainability Skills for Managers course is an accredited course which will enable you to contribute to improving the environmental sustainability of your organisation.

Attendees will:

  • Learn to apply green techniques that increase performance, efficiency, and impact, while reducing risk, waste and consumption.
  • Understand the strategic and operational implications environmental sustainability has on a business and its team.
  • Get an understanding of environmental legislation compliance.

 

The course will empower attendees to drive rapid change via its tools and resources, all designed to support their responsibility to create measurable sustainability impact. 

You will understand the requirements of ISO 14001, engaging stakeholders and staff while embedding environmental management into your business processes, and developing an environmentally conscious culture and organisation.


Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, you will have knowledge of:

  • The main environmental and economic risks and opportunities
  • Compliance obligations and business drivers for change
  • The main potential impacts on environment and sustainability
  • How to improve environmental performance
  • Evaluate drivers for change and barriers.
  • Using data to monitor and improve performance
  • Environmental sustainability across the value chain
  • The importance of implementing resource efficiency
  • How employees can improve environmental performance

 

Assessment

Attendees will be asked to complete an IEMA registration form prior to the course and this will be used to register you for the exam.

The exam is an online twenty question multiple choice test and you will be sent login details just prior to the course. There are monthly exam blocks when you can take your exam following the course. You will have 28 days to log in and complete the exam. Results will be provided straight away, and the IEMA Environmental Sustainability Skills for Managers certificate will be sent out within 10 weeks of successfully completing the exam. A free resit is available within the exam block, and there is a charge for further resits outside of this. 

IT Requirements:
Courses will be delivered by virtual classroom using Microsoft Teams, and the course workbook will be sent via email in advance of the course. A link to the assessment will be sent in advance or during the course. 
Attendees will require a laptop or PC to complete the course and the online exam but we recommend attendees also have an ipad, tablet or 2nd screen to access the course workbook during the course and the open book exam.

Environmental Sustainability is an area of huge growth and there are a significant number of Employment opportunities. As this is a relatively new sector, applicants are not required to be qualified in this, but to have some base knowledge and an interest in improving environmental performance.

This particular course provides an overview and is designed for all team leaders, supervisors and Managers in any organisation to provide an understanding and give an awareness of where improvements can be made. There are around 70,000 roles on Adzuna mentioning Sustainability (Source: Adzuna) with  an average salary of £38k and around 2,500 roles specifically for Environmental sustainability with an average salary of £41k (Source: Adzuna) however this particular training is suitable for anyone in a supervisory role across any sector
