South West Employment Fair Success
The CTP’s South West Employment fair was held on 18th June at the UWE Conference and Function Rooms in Bristol - read about the day and learn about what you can expect at a future event.
The CTP’s South West Employment fair was held on 18th June at the UWE Conference and Function Rooms in Bristol (right next door to Abbey Wood). The event is organised annually by the RRC Tidworth and RRC Plymouth teams, and this year’s event welcomed over 100 exhibitors interested in speaking with Service leavers. In total over 1,250 CVs were handed out on the day, with hundreds to follow by email after the event.

Representatives from over 90 employers were in attendance, including national companies such as BAE Systems, Babcock, Siemens, Fujitsu, MOD Police and Jaguar Land Rover, as well as organisations from across the South West, including Sponge UK, Gregory Distribution, Supacat, Defence School of Aeronautical Engineering and Atkins. Additionally, Service Support organisations including The Poppy Factory, The Royal British Legion and Haig Housing were on hand to provide advice on all aspects of resettlement, as well as the Army, Royal Navy and RAF Recruiting Teams to speak to those Service leavers interested in continuing their military career as a Reservist.

Very pleased with the variation and enthusiasm of exhibitors. A very worthwhile event.

The event was officially opened by Col Toby Bridge from 1 Artillery Brigade and South West. The venue boasts a large exhibition room, which provided plenty of space for Service leavers to sit down and read through the event brochure upon arrival. When attending a CTP Employment Fair, it is a good idea to take a look at the companies in attendance and work out a plan of action for the day. The event brochure contains industry sector icons next to each employer, to let you know about the different industries and job roles in which they are recruiting. This enables you to target the exhibitors that are recruiting in your chosen future profession; remember, many organisations have vacancies across a number of industries – an IT company could also be recruiting in HR, Administration and Logistics, so keep an open mind and ensure you speak to as many companies as possible.

The fair was excellent; CV's received are of a very high standard.

CTP Employment Fairs also feature presentations from employers and industry experts. Attendees at the South West event had the opportunity to hear from The IET (The Institution of Engineering and Technology) about the broad range of opportunities in the sector. Jaguar Land Rover then took to the stage, highlighting their current vacancies in Engineering, Management, Logistics and Transport. Pertemps spoke about driving careers and highlighted that there is currently a 60,000 driver shortfall for the industry, with the opportunity to earn a minimum of £100 a day after deductions. GE Aviation were the final company to present, and highlighted their current roles is Instructing, Engineering, Project Management, IT and Maintenance.

A brilliant opportunity to walk through industry sectors and chat to employers - thank you.
