Resettlement success
Forces: Army

"I would advise any Service leaver to put any doubts to one side and go for it! Do not think that you cannot do it. Look at the overall picture in terms of the skills and competencies you do have and can bring to any job."
I have been with Santander since September 2016. Prior to this, I was in
the Military for 17 years; I really enjoyed the development and mental
challenge, travel and bonding with everyone - the camaraderie was
fantastic. I enjoyed all the challenges thrown at me as it increased my
problem solving skills and ability for lateral thinking. Fundamentally
learning that there is always a way!
The Career Transition
Partnership helped me transition into civilian work, offering me a range
of courses and workshops. I attended the Career Transition Workshop
(CTW) where I learned how to focus on identifying my transferable
skills, develop my CV, and to get tips on how to succeed at job
interviews.
As a Personal Banker with Santander, I give customers
the information they need to help them make the right decision for
them. The role uses my communication, listening and tolerance skills.
These skills, developed during my time in the Army, have allowed me to
be open minded about every customer and their unique needs, and have
helped me deal with things on the spot, as well as understand the
importance of finding a solution to get it sorted.
It is a
different culture to the Army and the team in the branch have been
really welcoming, friendly and supportive so I never feel any question
is too daft!
"I would advise any Service
leaver to put any doubts to one side and go for it! Do not think that
you cannot do it. Look at the overall picture in terms of the skills and
competencies you do have and can bring to any job."The
military gives you the breadth of skills you do have and Santander as an
organisation appreciate that and can see the value you will add.
