Following six years in the REME, Daniel Cotteril made the move to Civvy Street, and now uses his skills as a PSV Mechanic for Stagecoach. During
his service, Daniel enjoyed the opportunity to travel with work in both
Canada and Afghanistan, and also gained his HGV Class 1, 2, and Level 3
in Mechanics.
During his resettlement with CTP, Daniel attended a
three day Career Transition Workshop (CTW), learning how to translate
his military experience on his CV, along with interview and networking
techniques. Throughout his resettlement, he kept in close contact with
his Career Consultant, who assisted him with his CV and covering letter
writing, along with job applications and career advice.
Having
gained extensive experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Daniel decided to
continue his career in this field. Since February 2016, Daniel has
worked as a PSV (Public Service Vehicle) Mechanic for Stagecoach, with
his main day-to-day duties including repairing and maintaining the
company's fleet of vehicles to the strict standards set by both
Stagecoach and the DVSA, carrying out preventative maintenance and
completing roadside and running repairs when necessary. Daniel relies on
the many transferrable skills and training he gained as part of the
REME.
Daniel says that the biggest obstacle he faced was entering
into the 'unknown' of Civvy Street and not knowing what to expect. A
year an a half later, Daniel is well settled into his new role and would
advise other Service leavers in his position to go for it!
