Attend this course to learn about the practical issues involved in the management of environmental risk, and gain a nationally recognised qualification.

Is this the right course for me?

The course is particularly suitable for those with an interest in the environment who have supervisory experience and are seeking a Health and Safety related role. It will suit managers, supervisors and staff who need a broad understanding of Health and Safety issues. NEBOSH qualifications are increasingly essential for those looking for employment in the Health and Safety sector but they also apply to other roles such as Facilities Management .

IMPORTANT TO NOTE:
The course lasts for 5 days on site at a CTP centre. All CTP courses follow NEBOSH guidelines on tuition time and students are expected to undertake significant private study.

The programme of study is based on 34 taught hours and approximately 25 hours of private study for an overall total of 59 hours.

 

Quoted hours do not include assessment time, ie, sitting examinations or the practical application unit.

 

Assessment

EMC1: 24-hour open book examination (OBE) – learners will be required to review a real-life scenario and answer a number of theoretical and practical questions on environmental management.

EMC2: practical assessment – learners will be asked to assess environmental aspects and impacts present in their chosen workplace

NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate

Eligibility

The course is open to all Service personnel. No previous environmental management knowledge is required but candidates should be literate and numerate to at least level 2. 

The NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is recommended but not a mandatory pre-requisite for this course.

Learning Outcomes

  • Justify environmental management in the workplace using ethical, legal and financial arguments, linking these to wider environmental issues including sustainable development
  • Recognise workplace activities which may be subject to environmental legislation or enforcement
  • Understand the requirements of, and work within, an environmental management system, whilst contributing to continual improvement
  • Assess environmental aspects and associated impacts, determining significant aspects and evaluating current controls
  • Support environmental emergency planning
  • Understand the importance of reducing environmental harm; identify sources of noise, air, and water pollution; and suggest suitable control measures
  • Understand the issues associated with waste and support responsible waste management.
  • Understand the benefits and limitations of a range of energy sources, and suggest suitable measures to increase energy efficiency

Career Opportunities

Two thirds of Health and Safety roles include Environmental Management responsibilities - NEBOSH certificates are widely recognised and can be applied to first line management Health and Safety roles across a wide range of industry sectors. Job roles could include Consultancy, Water Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environment Management and Water Management.
