Eligibility
Eligibility to enrol on this Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training is a reasonable level of physical fitness and a strong interest in health, fitness and wellbeing. No prior qualifications are required although writing and numeracy skills are required for presentation of course work.Attendees should have access to IT facilities in order to prepare course work and complete e-learning modules, and where relevant, the use of skype or similar for remote assessments (see below).
Please note: Module 1 is a pre-requisite for the Module 2 Diploma. These are not independent modules and must be booked together. Module 1 is not available on its own.
Use of a ‘Real-Life’ participant
As mentioned above, attendees will be assessed on the progress they have made with a real life participant. Attendees will need to find an individual, colleague (not a fellow student on the course) or friend who they can develop a programme for, and meet on regular occasions throughout the course to check their progress and suggest changes as required.
The individual/'Real life' participant would be required to attend the assessment at our training centre on up to 2 occasions, however where this is not possible, the training provider will check to see if assessments are scheduled for similar dates in a more local venue. If no other alternative can be found the assessment may be carried out in exceptional circumstances only via Skype or other online means. This will be discussed in advance of the course or during week 1. Due to this, the Module 4 assessment dates may change.
Course Content
This course is delivered through blended learning to enable attendees to gain the knowledge and skills through classroom and practical training, and further develop these through the training of a ‘real life’ participant. Attendees will complete 18 days of classroom and workshop training alongside e-learning training, and will be assessed through written case studies and practical assessments, including assessment of their progress with a client at the training centre or via a video assessment.We would recommend that you already have a ‘real life’ participant in mind before starting the programme. Please make them aware of the below schedule so that you are both prepared for key dates of when you will be working together.

Module 4 dates for the Personal Trainer assessment may vary, particularly if your assessment is taken closer to your home location. Exact dates will be organised with Future Fit if you will not be attending the main course location.
Course Assessments:
Gym Instructor
The practical assessment involves teaching a healthy adult beginner or intermediate client, whilst being observed by a Future Fit Assessor. The assessment also includes written work in the form of a portfolio of evidence and once students have passed the 2 multiple choice exams, 2 workbooks, portfolio and practical assessment they will be awarded a Future Fit Training Gym Instructor Certificate – this is the license to teach. The VTCT Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Gym-based exercise) will be claimed at this point.
The exams to be undertaken by students are:
Anatomy and physiology exam (1 hour): Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise
Anatomy and physiology exam (30 minutes): Principles of Exercise, Fitness and Health
Level 3 Exercise Programming & Coaching
The assessment for this course is via a portfolio of evidence, which students will need to create a 12-week training programme for a real participant. Students will need to begin working with a participant immediately after the course (Module 2).
This is followed by a practical assessment which takes place 4 weeks after the practical course. Students need to meet the participant on a regular basis during this 4-week period, monitoring their progress and any changes that have occurred. They must bring the same person they have been working with to the practical assessment.
Level 3 Nutrition & Weight Management
The assessment is via an 8-week case study on a real life participant. They will be required to analyse food diaries and their participant’s lifestyle, then offer suitable advice regarding where improvements can be made. They need to meet the participant on a regular basis during this 8-week period, monitoring their progress and any changes that have occurred. At the end of this 8-week period they will also need to answer a series of questions on the case study.
This course is REPS (Register of Exercise Professionals) and CIMSPA (Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity) approved.
Career Opportunities
The Gym Instructor qualification will enable course attendees to work within a gym setting, providing inductions and assisting members with the use of equipment.
The additional Level 3 qualifications will enable attendees to work as Personal Trainers, and provides the knowledge and skills to build a fitness business, and also provide advice on fitness and nutrition programmes.
Successful completion of the training will enable attendees to take advantage of the Guaranteed Interview scheme with leading gyms and health clubs throughout the UK.
