Why take this course?
A Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) is a digital computer used for automation of electromechanical processes, with diverse applications from control of machinery on factory assembly lines to, for example, amusement rides and light fixtures. PLCs are used in many industries and machines. The training course will provide you with the essential knowledge needed to understand the hardware and software concepts of PLCs, their applications in the control of manufacturing and other processes and how PLC may be programmed.
Is this the right course for me?
The PLC10 training course is aimed at individuals who want to develop a career in engineering using Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC). Service leavers interested in this training course will be expected to meet a minimum requirement of basic level Engineering Skills (Mechanical or Electrical). The course will particularly suit Service leavers with an HNC/HND or electronics background. Many employment opportunities within engineering will list PLC knowledge as a primary skill set to have for the job.Course attendees may wish to also gain 18th Edition Electrical Wiring Regulations. CTP offer this course under our Contract Funded Programme at RTC Aldershot.
Qualifications
- EAL Level 3 Award in Programmable Logic Controllers
(Awarded on successful completion of this 10 day course) - City & Guilds Programmable Logic Controllers (Based on Training in Week 1)
Eligibility
Service leavers interested in this training course will be expected to have a minimum requirement of basic level Engineering Skills (Mechanical or Electrical). It will particularly suit Service leavers with a HNC/HND or electronics background, although this is not a pre-requisite.Course Content
This is a practical 10 day modular course, (75 guided learning hours).
- Module 10.1: Understand the internal architecture of PLCs, their applications, and knowledge of the number systems they use.
- Module 10.2: Understand the typical input and output devices with PLCs, their selection, and how they are interfaced to the PLC.
- Module 10.3: Investigate and understand the basic programming techniques used with PLCs.
- Module 10.4: Produce a correctly developed programme for a PLC to control a specified process, and document the complete programme to a satisfactory standard.
- Module 10.5: Understand how to monitor PLC operation, force devices and fault find PLC controlled processes.
Primarily the course is biased towards the Siemens S7, Allen Bradley and Mitsubishi range of PLCs, however, many other manufacturers equipment can be covered if required.
Career Opportunities
The PLC10 training course will prepare you for employment in commercial or industrial engineering roles. Employment prospects are good both nationally and globally in engineering sectors such as Manufacturing, Rail, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. Many employment opportunities within engineering will list PLC knowledge as a primary skill set to have for the job.Level 3 Award in Programmable Logic Controllers
