Why take this course?

This course is ideal as a follow on from either the Property Maintenance or Bricklaying and Concreting courses. It will teach you how to construct or maintain external structures, principally in the garden. Taught by  experienced trades people who are experts in their field you will learn all the ‘tricks of the trade’ to achieve that professional standard. Is this the right course for me?

This course is right for you if you are  looking to complete landscaping projects around your home or develop a career in property development.  You will be keen to have a ‘hands on’ experience  and want to achieve practical results in a short time. If your aim is to develop your DIY skills to complete small projects in the land around our home then this will suit your needs. No prior knowledge is required but keenness to participate in practical exercises from the start is necessary to get the most out of the course. You are welcome to bring your own ideas and gain expert advice on how to realise them.

There are no formal qualifications available on this course.

Eligibility

There are no entry requirements, however attendees will find it advantageous to have completed either the Property Maintenance or Bricklaying and Concreting courses.

Fees & Funding

  • Full course cost is paid in Module 1

Course Content

The course content can be flexible according to the demands of the students but will include some or all of the following: 

  • Bricklaying techniques to support exterior projects
  • Step construction
  • Path laying
  • Patio laying
  • Block paving
  • Concrete bases
  • Individual projects such as retaining garden walls, raised beds etc 
  • All relevant Health and Safety. 
If a student has a particular project in mind and it is within the scope of the course, every effort will be made to give tuition on it.

Career Opportunities

This course is designed to meet the needs of Service leavers seeking the practical skills to complete outdoor landscaping projects around the home. It will also be beneficial for those planning a career in property development or property management.
