Why take this course?

Successful candidates will qualify as a Cat C licence holder which enables you to drive Lorries weighing over 3,500kg with large trailers weighing up to 750Kg.

For those who require the initial Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (DCPC) you will also complete the mandatory part 4 during this course. Successful candidates will also be issued with the Driver Qualification Card (or DQC) which is proof of completion of the initial DCPC and therefore qualification to drive commercially for hire or reward.

The DQC must be then be further validated by completing 35 hours of periodic training. For further information in DCPC please see here.

Is this the right course for me?

If you are planning on a career as a professional driver then this course is the ideal starting point.

Category C Licence, Driver Qualification Card (or DQC)

Those wanting to book a place on this course are required to hold a Full Category B (Car) licence with Provisional entitlement for Category C. You also require parts 1 and 2 of the initial DCPC. If however you have passed your car test prior to 1997 and have Category C1 entitlement on your licence then you do not require Parts 2 and 4 and therefore may book directly onto our Driver CPC/ADR Course. For more information on how to add provisional entitlement and completing parts 1 and 2 see here.

A useful list of FAQs is available to download at the bottom of this page.

Fees & Funding

  • Course Fee 5 Days IRTC (£133.50)
  • Exam Fee £170.00

Fee Information

Please note the driving test will be booked in advance of attending the course, in order to obtain a suitable time. Test fees are non refundable. Some attendees may not be ready to sit the exam on the final day, and in this case, the extra time will be used for practical training.

Course Content

This course is delivered by 2 Start Training at the following locations:

Hilsea (Portsmouth, PO3 5HU)
Otterbourne (near Winchester SO21 2DY )
Worthing ( BN18 9PY )

Training consists of up to 16 hours practical training delivered over a 4 or 5 day period. We plan to ensure that the practical test takes place on the final, fifth, day of the course however this may be later and is dependent on the workload of the local test centre. Extra time may be added for testing.

There are 4 parts which make up the Initial Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (DCPC) and the practical test and practical demonstration test make up the final parts (3 and 4). In the majority of cases attendees must have completed parts 1 and 2 (Theory and case study tests) prior to booking.

There are some circumstances where you may have ‘acquired rights’ and therefore do not require parts 2 and 4 of the initial DCPC. For further information  see here.

Please note:  As driving is a skill that some will develop faster than others, it is important for all Service leavers to understand that the average commercial first time pass rate is in the region of 60%. This course provides full training on the skills required to pass the test, successful candidates will be those who apply the skills taught during the course.

Test Fees: Please note that in order to secure a test on the final day of the course the booking is made and paid in advance therefore test fees are non-refundable.  In the instance that a Service leaver is not ready for the booked test then the time previously allocated for this activity will be spent on further training.

Career Opportunities

There are currently thousands of employment opportunities UK wide for professional drivers and we regularly advertise UK wide driving opportunities on our Rightjob website, where Employers are keen to receive applications from Service leavers.
