This course is designed for both engineers with experience, who require the civilian qualifications provided, and also for new entrants from a non-engineering background who want to pursue a new career as a Service Engineer. For those without an engineering background, it is recommended that you have a minimum grade C at GSCE Maths.Qualifications

Eligibility
Any Service leaver will be able to attend this training, however attendees with a good basic level of Engineering skills (mechanical or electrical) will benefit.Those without Engineering skills should have a minimum Grade C in Maths at GCSE or equivalent.
Course Content
Introduction to Air Conditioning & Refrigeration
This unit provides a simple understanding of Air Conditioning & Refrigeration fundamentals, applications and terminology. The introduction covers SI units, heat load calculation, equipment selection, air conditioning and refrigeration systems and cycles.
Installation, Commissioning & Service Engineering
Covers all aspects of the installation, commissioning and servicing of all types of air conditioning and refrigeration systems to ensure correct, energy efficient running of systems. Practical aspects include pipe work design, jointing, setting up and purging with OFN, pressure testing and leak testing of systems, evacuation and dehydration, charging, recovery, servicing, fault diagnosis and commissioning.
Building Engineering Services Association Brazing Competency Certification(Commercial Scheme)
Practically orientated unit including theoretical elements for safe and competent refrigeration brazing techniques covering a range of refrigerant line diameters, brazing materials/techniques to attain leak-proof joints. Attendees will be instructed in jointing of dissimilar metals, utilising a variety of brazing alloys, silver solders, and fluxes. Training and instruction will be given in the use, transportation, storage, and testing of Oxy-Acetylene equipment to ensure safe working practices. We use propane for brazing, although we cover the theory of brazing with acetylene.
Logic Certification (or City & Guilds 2079) F-Gas Training, Assessment & Certification (Category 1)
This unit is an essential requirement for any persons connected with refrigerants. The course covers all types of refrigerants, the ozone layer and other environmental issues, health and safety, regulations and codes of practice, recovery, pressure leak testing, evacuation and charging. Training for this module is 25% theory and 75% practical. Meets the requirements for mandatory training under the F-Gas Regulations 2014. Leads to 5 year Certification on attainment of pass grade. This is the only F-Gas course at present which covers the latest criteria under EC Regulation 2067/2015 and is therefore the only Level 3 F-Gas qualification available.
Logic Essential Electrics and Safe Isolation
Designed to cover the safe isolation of electrically powered or controlled equipment, identifying types of instrumentation used in installation and testing. Terminating and installation practices with an emphasis on electrical safety.
Due to changes to European & UK Legislation, traditional refrigerants are being phased down and will, in the main, be replaced by flammable alternatives. This unit will give attendees the theoretical knowledge to enable them to safely select refrigerating equipment for any application required to work on a flammable refrigerant. This will also qualify attendees to safely handle flammable refrigerants such as R290, R600a and R32.
(17th Edition – will be upgraded to 18th Edition from August 2018)
This course provides training in the design of electrical wiring systems in line with the latest industry regulation on wiring and the safe use and competency in the operation of electrical equipment and systems.
Career Opportunities
The course prepares Service leavers for a future role as a Service Technician or Air Conditioning and/or Refrigeration Engineer. Employment is available through many of the large nationwide Facilities Management companies, and other opportunities include data centres and working within retail organisations to maintain and repair chillers.Supporting Documents
