Why take this course?

Successful completion of this course will allow Service Leavers to complete the verification process for new Electrical Installations and carry out periodic inspections on older properties.

It is intended for those who have successfully completed the Domestic Electrical Installation Full Scope course with CTP or a similar course, so please ensure you have booked to attend a DEI course before the start date of your 2391-52 Inspection & Test course

Is this the right course for me?

This course is usually delivered to experienced Electricians who already know how to inspect, test and complete relevant certification forms. It aims to build on existing knowledge and understanding rather than teach from scratch.

Qualifications

City & Guilds 2391-52 Level 3 Award in Inspection and Testing assessment is in 3 parts:
  • One 3 hour assessment consisting of 2 practical tasks
  • A short-answer open-book 80 minute written exam
  • An online open-book 120 minute multi-choice exam

Eligibility

To be eligible to attend this course without having first completed CTP’s Domestic Electrical Installation course, a Service leaver must be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience to a similar level as delivered on that course. This will include previous domestic electrical installation training, domestic inspection and test experience, hands-on 3-phase testing experience and an 18th Edition qualification. A Service leaver choosing this route will be referred to the RTC Engineering department before being accepted on the course.

Course Content

Successful completion of this course will enable you to understand principles, practices and legislation for initial verification and periodic inspection of electrical installations with statutory and non-statutory regulations and requirements.

The course provides the knowledge needed by a learner to underpin the application of skills for the inspection, testing, commissioning and certification of electrical installations.

2 day Resit Module 2391-52, available those who do not pass the practical element first time.

This course is specifically for Service Leavers who have already attended the 2391-52 course delivered by CTP and have failed ONLY the practical assessment and have been advised by the original assessor that they are near the standard to pass. Other service leavers who do not meet this criteria will be advised to book on the complete 2391-52 course again.

Resit Module 2391-52 course outline

This 2-day course covers one day of practice and one day of practical assessment.

Day 1 you will have a practical demo of a 3 phase and single phase test rig. You will also be talked through the EIC and EICR paperwork, and how to complete them. The remainder of the day will be used for your own supervised practice on our test rigs and completing paperwork. You will have the opportunity to get feedback from the tutor on both practical and paperwork aspects.

Day 2 will be the practical assessment and post assessment feedback from the assessor

The Resit Module 2391-52 is also Contract Funded, therefore you will be required to use your IRTC to fund this. The cost to your IRTC is £53.40, there are no exam fees for practical resits.

Career Opportunities

This Initial Verification element of this qualification should enhance your abilities and knowledge of the Initial Verification process and therefore make you a better domestic installer (should you wish to limit yourself to that). It will also enable you to understand the principles, practices and legislation in accordance with statutory and non-statutory regulations enabling you to undertake the Periodic Inspection, Testing and Condition Reporting of Electrical Installations.

The course should also enhance your chances of employment with a company that may sponsor you to get your NVQ L3 and therefore be able to work in both domestic and industrial environments as a qualified Electrician. It should be noted however that this takes considerable additional time and study.
