Aim of the Course 
The aim of the course is to equip Service leavers with detailed technical knowledge and expertise on maintaining cycles in order that they can find employment in this growing sector. It also promotes safer cycling and offers a retirement training option. It is delivered in association with Cycle Systems which is an award winning and innovative company started in 2007 and is known within the industry as the quality option for this training.

Course Content 
This module (1) is 10 days in duration. The total course duration is 20 days, which includes both the Level 2 (Module 1) and the Level 3 (Module 2).

Module 1 (Level 2 Certificate)
The Level 2 course syllabus is as follows:
Professional working knowledge of the following systems:
  • Working safely in a cycle maintenance environment
  • British Standards relating to the sale of new bicycles
  • Understanding of customer service requirements
  • Frame and fork technology and headsets
  • Principles of gear systems
  • Principles of brake systems
  • Principles of cycle hubs, wheels, tubes and tyres
  • Wheel lacing
  • Wheel building
  • Stripping and rebuilding a geared bike and Pre Delivery Inspection.
Module 2 (Level 3 Diploma)
The Level 3 course syllabus is as follows:
Professional working knowledge of the following systems:
  • Working in a maintenance environment (advanced)
  • Understanding of customer service requirements (advanced)
  • Principles of cycle hydraulic braking systems
  • Principles of cycle fork suspension systems
  • Principles of full suspension cycle systems
  • Principles of complex cycle wheel systems and advanced wheelbuilding (Road and MTB)
  • Road bike advanced groupset set up and repair - including Campagnolo, Sram and Shimano.


Qualifications Awarded 
Level 2: EAL accredited Certificate in Cycle Maintenance
Level 3: EAL accredited Diploma in Cycle Maintenance

Employment Opportunities 
This training will suit many Service leavers who not only are looking to this as an option for future employment with cycle retail outfits, with clubs, on cycling tours, with mobile cycling servicing etc but will also suit those who are interested in self-employment and retirement.

If this is not possible or the alternative(s) is/are not acceptable to the Service leaver, Right Management, who deliver all non-contract courses listed, may refund in full the total amount paid to date for non-contract funded courses, or, in the case of MOD Contract Funded courses, in agreement with the MOD, the Service leavers IRTC grant will not be notionally reduced.
