Aim of the Course
This Safety, Health, Environmental and Fire (SHEF) course is designed to offer 3 qualifications in one course which enables the student to become an environmentally astute Health and Safety Practitioner. This will include NEBOSH General, Fire and Environmental Management certificates for managers and supervisory staff that need to ensure their organisations meet their responsibilities under Health and Safety and Environmental Management. Courses leading to this qualification should equip holders to carry out risk assessments of most low risk workplaces and identify the range of protective and preventative measures required.

It is imperative that potential students note that individual demands of this qualification are commensurate with the level of study – this is a SQA Level 6 qualification. Students often under estimate the demands of such a course. Course members will be required to commit themselves to a period of intensive study which is very demanding of their time and energy.

Course Content

The syllabus is based on National Occupational Standards in Health and Safety and Environmental Management at SQA Level 6.

  • NGC 1: Management of health and safety.
  • GC 2: Controlling workplace hazards.
  • GC 3: Health and safety practical application. (Location provided on the course.)

These NEBOSH National Certificates are aimed at Supervisors and Managers within any industry who are required to ensure that activities under their control are undertaken safely. It is likely to prove useful for those concerned with the management of buildings, people and processes.

It covers a broad range of hazards including general workplace hazards as well as the more specific fire hazards and the management of environmental issues, and the means by which they can be controlled.

The course also includes the main legal requirements relating to Health and Safety and enables students to undertake effective safety and environmental inspections.

You will be able to provide detailed advice on environmental issues in line with current legislation and HSE guidance, and to assist an organisation in continual environmental management and control measures.
