It is designed to provide the foundation knowledge necessary for individuals who have information security responsibilities as part of their day to day role, or who are thinking of moving into an information security or related function.
The course tests the knowledge of principles, not knowledge of specific technologies or products. Cloud Computing is also in the syllabus. Upon successful completion of this certification candidates can expect to gain knowledge and understanding in the following:
- Knowledge of the concepts relating to information security management (confidentiality, integrity, availability, vulnerability, threats, risks, countermeasures, etc).
- Understanding of current national legislation and regulations which impact upon information security management.
- Awareness of current national and international standards, frameworks and organisations which facilitate the management of information security.
- Understanding of the current business and common technical environments in which information security management has to operate.
- Knowledge of the categorisation, operation and effectiveness of controls of different types and characteristics.
Students will gain the ‘Certificate in Information Security Management Principles’. It is accredited at Foundation level by The British Computer Society which is the chartered institute for IT and is a leading industry body for IT professionals around the world.
This qualification will enhance employment opportunities across a range of sectors including IT, Security Services, HR, Insurance, Project Management either working for private companies, consultancies or in the public sector. It is designed for those aiming at managerial positions.
The certification is intended for those with an interest in information security either as a potential career or as an additional part of their general business knowledge. It is very much a firm foundation on which other more technical qualifications can be built or which provides a thorough general understanding to enable business users of IT to ensure their information is protected appropriately.
This course complements the CTP combined Comptia Network+, Security+ and Forensics (NSF) course delivered at the RTC as part of the Contract Funded programme.

If this is not possible or the alternative(s) is/are not acceptable to the Service leaver, Right Management, who deliver all non-contract courses listed, may refund in full the total amount paid to date for non-contract funded courses, or, in the case of MOD Contract Funded courses, in agreement with the MOD, the Service leavers IRTC grant will not be notionally reduced.
