On 12th February 2015, Newbury Racecourse hosted the 2015 South Central CTP Employment Fair. The Career Transition Partnership was delighted to offer over 550 Service leavers the opportunity to talk with over 80 employers including Amec Foster Wheeler, Care UK, Mars Chocolate, Babcock, Skanska and Vodafone UK, plus many more.
CTP employment fairs offer a fantastic networking opportunity - whether you're a Service leaver ready to apply for live jobs or simply researching the market and finding out about the types of roles on offer to you.
One Service leaver said: "I just wanted to say a personal thank you for organising the employment fair in Newbury. It was an excellent opportunity to meet companies face to face and get a little bit of a confidence booster. The general outcome for me was very good. You guys at CTP do an amazing job of committing yourselves to finding us jobs!"
Many of the employers in attendance commented on how impressed they were with the quality of Service leavers they met on the day, proving that employment fairs not only present a valuable opportunity for Service leavers to find out about job opportunities, but also for them to promote the skills and experience that ex-military personnel can offer to organisations. One representative from Care UK said, “This has been a wonderful event with great quality candidates”, whilst another from Mars commented, “I was delighted to speak to so many highly qualified engineers”.
Upon leaving the event, many Service leavers commented that they felt encouraged their skills were in demand, and they had received good feedback on their CVs. One attendee mentioned that he appreciated the honest feedback and advice from employers, and following discussions with a number of employers, had realised that he needed to amend the information he currently had on his specific skills and experience.
