How Armed Forces leavers can help construction
"If you can build a military camp in the middle of a war zone, you probably have a number of skills that the construction industry can use" says the CITB's Lorraine Gregory.
BuildForce is a new project which has been set up to prove that the end of military service can mark the beginning of a successful career in construction, and aims to offer work placements to Service leavers considering a career in the industry.

Lorraine Gregory, Sector Strategy Manager for the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), explains that the industry urgently needs more skilled people to meet the demands of its current growth, and cites transferable skills such as teamwork and communication as key.

Lorraine goes on to explain, "Just like the Armed Forces, our industry recognises and rewards ability and hard work. Ex-service professionals who take their skills into the industry feel valued because bosses appreciate what they can offer.

"For Armed Forces leavers, the benefits of moving into construction are easy to see but it’s also good news for employers.

"Training needs are kept to a minimum because people arrive with good technical and practical skills, discipline and a readiness to work hard. They’re also used to working under pressure, so offer a fast and cost-effective boost to businesses."
